Morris dropped by to promote her debut, A Single Man's Valentine, at Rebel Ink Press, which comes out this week!
K.T: What was the first thing you ever wrote?

P.K.: When I was six or seven I was visiting my grandmother on the island she lived, and still lives, on. We were in her backyard and found evidence of deer and later saw a doe with two fawns. That’s when I decided to write a little book about the doe and her twins. I even illustrated it and my mom “published” it at the printing place she worked at. Really, they were just photo copies but it was exciting to me.

K.T.: Who runs the show you or your characters?

P.K.: In my own little dream world I run the show. But in reality my characters take over after I get the first few sentences out. It’s like they have their own little lives to live.

K.T.: What books do you have out or are getting ready to release?

P.K.: My short story, A Single Man’s Valentine, out on February 3rd, 2012, is my first published story of any length. It’s being released in a Valentine’s Day themed anthology entitled Tempting Cupid and it’s being published by Rebel Ink Press.

K.T.: What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

P.K.: I like to read, knit, listen to music or see it live. Or just veg out on the couch

K.T.: One guilty pleasure?

P.K.: My music. I listen to almost anything and everything and would probably be laughed at for some of it. Those bands / singers are definitely my guilty pleasure. LOL.

LINKS

Blog: http://pkmorris.wordpress.com
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/Author.PK.Morris
Twitter: http://twitter.com/pk_morris
Email: pk.morris@comcast.net

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://kenibird.blogspot.com/2012/01/welcome-pk-morris.html' title='WELCOME.... Still reeling from that life changing night, Aimee decides to go home with Brenda, her best friend, for the holidays. She never expected Brenda’s brother, who comes off more like the Grinch then Santa, to have so many saint like qualities. Years spent alone, with no family or friends, plays heavy on her mind but Nic could possible be the one who changes it all.
has always been a sore spot for Nicolai. He’s the real saint Nic, but society has him all wrong. He’s no saint. In truth, he’s a vampire. Over the centuries, Nic has spent the holidays fighting off the ridicule from his younger brother and giving to those less fortune, not seeing his own worth. Until one mortal, brought home by his sister Brenda, changes the holiday and his outlook on life for eternity.
Is it possible that Nic has finally found his Mrs. Clause? When worlds meld, can Aimee find the happy ever after she once asked Santa for so many years ago, or is she doomed to spend forever lonely on Christmas?
Excerpt:
With a flick of his hand, the lights next to the bed turned on as did a few lamps across the room. Once my eyes adjusted, I got a better look at the amount of presents. Hundreds, littered the room. The only space not filled was around the bed and a path to two doors in opposite directions. Red, green, and golds splattered the room in a festive show of color.
“You really are Saint Nic.” Astonished I tried desperately to keep my mouth closed.
“Please don’t call me that.”
“Why not?” Turning away from the presents I turned my gaze to Nic’s in question.
“Because I’m nowhere near a saint.” Brows furrowing Nic stared intently at the computer screen.
“Then how did you get the name?”
“That would be Jaysen’s doing. One day, not to long after I started giving the gifts, we got into an argument. I don’t remember most of what was said, after all, it was quite a while ago, but I do remember the comment was rather snide. To this day neither of us knows how it ended up outside our argument, but it still reminds me of that comment. Besides saints are deemed so because of the greatness they do for mankind all I do is give a few toys to some kids.”
Moved by the noticeable hurt in his eyes, a relentless knot twisted in my stomach. Though I still didn’t know him, the connection between us grew with each passing moment.
Whether it was hormones or the fact that we were supposed to be mates, I didn’t know, but I couldn’t stand to see him sad.
I scooted out of the bed and made my way to him, wrapping paper shuffling under my feet. Then, as if it were the most natural thing to do, I lowered myself into his lap and hugged him close. “To those kids you are the world.”
“That’s why I do it every year. Though not in the grand scale that everyone thinks. I try to help at least a few orphanages and hospitals each year.”
“See, you are a saint. Every year you create the biggest rush of hope and joy to the children across the world. Though you can‘t help them all, the small sacrifices you have made over the centuries have helped to shape our world and helps friends and families learn the true meaning of giving. Without you there would be no hope of a perfect Christmas. If that isn‘t the act of a saint, I don‘t know what is.”
With a grunt in my ear, Nic’s arms tightened around me as he buried his head in the hair between my shoulder blade and ear.
Pulling away slightly, I raised my hands and held of each side of his head. My fingers ran though the silken strands of his hair using that leverage I brought his head up until our eyes met. Leaning down I kissed his full lips with a slight brush of mine.
You are the best mate anyone could ask for. My sports back in the day included kickball at recess, hunting and fishing, and baseball games in our big side yard. Half the neighborhood came over to play baseball and when we weren’t home, the same thing happened next door to my aunt too.
One day I hit a foul ball which smashed right through one of the lovely bay windows of our aged brick house and into the living room where my mother happened to be at that moment. I didn’t scream or cry but I must have looked like a death angel tapped my shoulder because one of my buddies, Craig Churchill, shot me a funny look and asked, “Will you get in trouble for that?” Without any sense of drama, I said, “My mom’s going to kill me.” His lips curved in a slow, sweet grin I’ll never forget as he told me, “Then I’ll tell her I did it.”
With that Craig snatched the bat out of my hands and confessed to what he didn’t do. His noble act saved my rear end from a fresh cut switch and my mother never knew any different until I was an adult. She didn’t scold Craig the way she would have me if she’d known. I learned sports and romance can mix even if you’re just a kid.
In most of my romance novels so far, sports haven’t played much of a role but in my Rebel Ink Press Christmas release, Sing We Now of Christmas, fishing – which I suppose is considered a sport – is a big part of the story. My hero, Johnny Devereaux heads out onto the lake on the Fourth of July in his Bayliner boat and his bride, my heroine Jessica, plans to meet him later for a family cookout.
When he fails to return, their happily ever after that began the day they met the previous December fades to black or would for most couples. Jessica however is not your average gal. She refuses to believe her husband might be gone for good and so she waits with her faith intact and belief strong. The novel begins and ends at Christmas, one year apart.
Here's an excerpt from the story, from the moment they meet for the first time:
She got up to leave, unhappy because her friend, Susan, spent all her time with the lead singer of the band, and backed into someone. In her haste she almost lost her balance. Strong arms caught her and held her upright as a voice said, audible above the music but not loud,
“Whoa, there honey, take it easy.”
Jessica whirled, embarrassed, to mumble an apology. All her words faded away when she gazed into his eyes, dark brown and richer than sweet chocolate. He looked back with interest and she felt a strong sense of attraction. He wasn’t the kind of guy she would give a second glance under any other circumstance but tonight she couldn’t look anywhere else. Everything about him was opposite of what she liked in a man – she liked tailored, Brooks Brothers business charm and he radiated country cowboy.
He fit into his faded Wranglers as if they’d been made just for his long legs and his pearl snap button blue patterned Western shirt suited him. He towered above her, taller by several inches even without the worn cowboy boots he wore. She inhaled his scent, a potent mixture of musky cologne, tobacco smoke, and beneath it all, Irish Spring soap. His hands, still holding her arms, were warm against her bare skin and she was glad, now, that she’d worn the black silk halter top despite the cold instead of the red sweater she’d worn to school. Jessica made her voice work with effort, “Thank you.”
“No problem,” he said and she drank in his voice, strong and comforting with just enough Oklahoma twang to make it interesting. “Would you care to dance?”
“I’d love it,” Jessica said as he released his grip on her arms to grab her hand instead. “My name’s Jessica Martin.”
“I’m Johnny,” he said and she committed the name to memory, “Johnny Devereaux.”
He led her onto the tiny dance floor just as Mark began to sing the softer, sweeter vintage country song, Lookin’ For Love. The old Johnny Lee song she remembered from that movie, Urban Cowboy, now felt like a theme song. She recalled watching it one late night in college, hating the boot scooting dance moves and the mechanical bull riding but loving the scene where Debra Winger danced to this same music with John Travolta. Such a coincidence she mused, Johnny Lee, John Travolta, and Johnny Devereaux.
Johnny put his arms around her and she cuddled close against him for the slow dance. They swayed together, their easy motions in time with the music, and she felt safe. Jessica’s head fell short of his shoulder and so as they danced, she could hear the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. Above them, the stationary silver ball that must have once spun reflected the colorful Christmas lights strung above the bar and Jessica felt the strangest sense of coming home in his arms. She wanted to stay there forever, wrapped in that magic cocoon of his embrace, and hold this moment close to her heart.
Sing We Now of Christmas will be available on Amazon.com, All Romance Ebooks, Bookstrand.com, Barnes and Noble and more. She's a Summa Cum Laude graduate from the University of Alabama with degrees in Business Management and Dance. She received her Master of Business Administration from the University of Mobile. Casey resides in Mobile where she stays busy with her two young children. She also works as a dance choreographer, pageant coach, professional emcee and model, and certified Miss America preliminary judge. In fact, she is a former Miss University of Alabama. Casey writes erotic and spicy contemporary romances with the tagline “Sexy, Southern & Sassy.”
Here's Casey: Thank you KT for having me and helping me kick off the CAN'T FAKE THIS
BLOG TOUR! I'm so excited to announce my debut will be out Dec. 6 with Loose, Id. It's funny how things work out. CAN'T FAKE THIS started out on a whim. At the last minute, I decided to enter this 10,000 word contest. I’d written spicy mainstream, but this was my first dive into erotic waters. I didn’t win the contest, but after having what I thought was a good start, I added some more words and low and behold,
this erotic became the first manuscript I sold.

The story is about a divorcee ready to reenter the dating world. Anna Ryan is determined to be the best “product on the market,” which requires a lot more experience so she propositions sexy police officer Chase Harris to teach her how to make hot, passionate love as opposed to just having sex. He takes it a step further, instructing each lesson based on The Twelve Days of Christmas.

The blog tour kicks off here and there will be a huge blog party on my website Dec. 6 where 12 authors will be doing 12 give-aways to go along with the 12 Days of Christmas theme in the story. Best sellers & RITA nominees from various genres will be there! I hope you join me at http://www.caseycrow.com/blog/ for chances to win great books and other prizes.

So do you have a story about a book or something that came to fruition but never should have? Something that happened because you acted spontaneous and it changed your course of life? I'd love to hear about it!
Visit her at www.caseycrow.com. While I am excited about all of them, Getting the Boot, stands out. Mainly because I've been promoting the book for the past two years, especially putting a map on this site.
Getting the Boot and the Second Chance Anthology will be released sometime in 2012. My last Red Rose Publishing release, SECRET LOVE MATCH, a contemporary romance, also contained a lesser amount of intrigue. A dysfunctional family, an absent father set on kidnapping his child, and the vastly different age and professions of my hero and heroine makes for a great romance. In my newest release, I incorporate a young woman—Destiny Blake who is bothered by two local men intent on garnering her attention—but I have her fall for an older art history professor, whom she saves on a mountain trail. A murder, a stalker, and her hot and cold relationship with Jacob come together during an icy snowfall on her mountain. I also write paranormal romance as Nancy Lee Badger at www.nancyleebadger.com and www.RescuingRomance.nancyleebadger.com.
K.T.: Why have you become a published author?
N.L.: As a mature, married, mother of two wonderful adult sons, my high-stress job as a 9-1-1 dispatcher needed an outlet. A way to let off steam, I suppose. In the wee hours of an overnight shift, I was fond of reading newspapers and paperbacks. When I took pencil to paper to try my hand at writing, several fellow dispatchers were gracious enough to help. Their editing suggestions and camaraderie led to the creating of DESTINY’S MOUNTAIN. The simple joy of creating characters and making them come to life aided me when my husband and I toyed with the idea of moving closer to family. When we actually pulled it off, I became a fulltime writer.
After selling two other manuscripts, I took DESTINY’S MOUNTAIN out of the drawer. Using skills I learned at workshops and conferences I polished it, submitted it, and sold it!
KT: Tell us about yourself.
N.L.: As a writer, I use memories to bring my stories to life. I use recollections from my years at college in New Hampshire where I met my husband. I reminisce about my years as a volunteer EMT and firefighter in a small, rural town surrounded by New Hampshire’s White Mountains. A couple of paramedic-firefighters figure in the story…imagine that! Hiking fills the opening chapters of DESTINY’S MOUNTAIN and I had the good fortune to hike both Rattlesnake Mountain and Stinson Mountain in Rumney, New Hampshire as well as many trails in the larger White Mountains to the north. Twice I led my cub scout pack on a twenty kilometer hike across various trails. I have hiked to the base of the famous Rumney Climbing Cliffs to rescue fallen climbers. It’s no wonder a hike in the woods is an integral part of DESTINY’S MOUNTAIN.
Book Blurb
In a quirky college town surrounded by the mountains of New Hampshire new art history professor, Jacob Oliver, hikes a trail on a crisp September morning. He contemplates his life. Divorced and forced out of his job with the Boston Police due to a horrific accident, he spots a naked woman beneath a majestic waterfall. Escaping, he falls and reinjures his knee.
Destiny Blake hears a noise. Someone is on her mountain. She finds a handsome man sitting in the mud. Love blooms and lust consumes them after she helps him to the safety of her cabin. Soon, assumptions pull them apart, leaving her vulnerable to the unwanted attentions of other men.
When Jacob decides he cannot live without her, he must save her from a madman who chases her up her mountain through the cold, snowy darkness of a November night. Ghostly voices push Jacob onward, and urge Destiny to fight back. Pain, hypothermia, and death threaten before the sun rises. Can Destiny and Jacob make it off Destiny's mountain...alive?
Excerpt
A shout jerked her to the present, and then two large hands grabbed her around the waist. Her rescuer and she spun together and landed with a thud against a brick storefront. A milk tanker truck barreled down the empty street. The whoosh of air brakes and the truck’s horn added to her momentary disorientation. The passing vehicle’s bulk blew hot air into her face. Blinded, she tried to jerk free of her savior. He held tight.
“Are you trying to kill yourself? Let me know now so I don’t risk my life again,” said a gruff masculine voice. He dragged her into the alley.
“Jacob? Let go.”
“Are you for real? Didn’t you see the truck?”
She shook her head then realized his gaze followed the rise and fall of her chest. Before he could move or say another word, she leaned in and kissed him. So he couldn’t pull back, she curled both arms around his neck. So he couldn’t retreat, she wove her fingers through his wavy hair and held tight.
Her tongue entered his warm mouth and made him groan. She pressed her body tight against his. He tasted of coffee and smelled like cinnamon toast. When he pushed the length of his body against hers and pressed her hard against the wall, she felt the solid bulge of his arousal. He still desired her.
“Destiny,” he said, “we mustn’t do this. I’m sorry.” He pulled away and freed his lips from her mouth.
“Why shouldn’t we be together?”
He didn’t answer. Instead, he pushed back from the wall, turned, and walked away.
Author BIO
Nancy grew up on New York’s Long Island then attended college in the beautiful mountains of New Hampshire. An avid downhill & cross-country skier and hiker, she worked during college in their dining hall while earning a degree in art education. After meeting her husband there, they raised a family in a small, nearby town. She volunteered as an EMT/firefighter on their small fire department then worked for the State of New Hampshire as a 9-1-1 Emergency Medical Dispatcher. Retired from public service, Nancy now writes full time, lives in North Carolina, and is a member of Romance Writers of America, Heart of Carolina Romance Writers, Fantasy-Futuristic & Paranormal Romance Writers, Celtic Heart Romance Writers, and Sisters-in-Crime. She also writes paranormal romance, such as her recent release, DRAGON’S CURSE, as Nancy Lee Badger. What book are they saying “Congratulations” for? It was August 29, 2009. Diving into my office closet, I whipped out my binder for SECRET LOVE MATCH. Yep, I’d sent them the manuscript for consideration in October 2008! SECRET LOVE MATCH , which was released on June 25, 2010, is my third completed manuscript and I was already working on number 6. I calmly discussed the contract with family, filled out the papers, mailed it away, and took my husband and youngest adult son out for dinner!
K.T.: Who is your favorite character in your book and why?
N.L.: I love Taylor Adams. I wrote him first. I saw him as this older guy looking back on life. He’s turned forty and has money, but nothing else to show for it; no wife, no family, no career. His five years of fame on a TV Space Western ended 15 years earlier. Hi’s decided to follow his dream and be on the big screen. Of course, Becka appears and everything changes and for the better. I like how he goes from a stuck-up Hollywood has-been to her knight in shining armor.
K.T.: What part of the book is the easiest for you to write? Why?
N.L.: The beginning is easiest because I have all these stories running around my head screaming to get out. Then I have to stop and fill out a storyboard so I know where my characters are headed. Then I keep writing until the end.
K.T.: What part of the book is the hardest for you? Why?
N.L.: The end. This is when the revisions start. Every time I read my stories, I find another way to describe something, or a better way for the story to flow. I finally have to say STOP. Then, an editor will come along and change it all.
K.T.: What made you pick tennis and the Olympics as your heroine’s dream?
N.L: I grew up in Huntington, New York, on the north shore of Long Island. We lived within walking distance of the beach and my parents scrimped and saved in order to join the Bay Hills Beach Club with its sandy beach, lifeguards, swimming lessons, locker rooms, playground, movie night, and tennis courts. I remember taking lessons and playing with friends. I continued playing for fun through high school and into college. I never thought to play professionally. I just wanted to have fun!
K.T.: How does being an athlete keep Rebecca Delacourt from obtaining her hero?
N.L.: Becka, as I call her, is earning her way as a pro at her parent’s posh Glen Cove, NY Country Club. She refuses to give up her life’s dream to capture a spot on the United States Olympic tennis team by falling in love—like her mom did. Her mother, a former TV actress, gave it all up for love and a family. At 21 years of age, Becka feels she has a lot to look forward to and not one minute of that includes a man. I loved making her fall for Taylor.
K.T: Are you very sports minded?
N.L: I grew up somewhat gangly. I enjoyed lacrosse until my shins turned blue. I liked volleyball, but I ended up sliding over the floor a lot. I did manage to be the best archer in my high school gym class. I ended up teaching archery to kids at a day camp, so I guess that went somewhere. After I married my lacrosse-playing college sweetheart, I helped keep score when he coached Little League. After the birth of our two boys, I watched my sons when they played either soccer or baseball. Today I am a great NASCAR fan, though I’ve only attended one race and that was while I worked as a Track Team EMT. I walked up and down the stands with a medical kit wearing earplugs. Exciting! My goal is to watch a race as a spectator. The best I can do is watch it on TV.
K.T.: Having achieved your goal to be a published author, what is the most rewarding thing?
N.L.: I enjoy every minute spent with other aspiring authors. Whether with my local chapter of Romance Writers America, or on-line with several writer groups, I feel their pain and celebrate their triumphs. Only another writer can truly understand the loneliness surrounding this vocation. I hope my openness and attentiveness to others helps someone achieve their goals. That is the ultimate reward. I am NOT in this for the money.
K.T.: What hobby do you enjoy when not writing?
N.L.: Reading. Traveling while I read. Swimming while I read. Eating while I read…you get the picture. I belong to a local Romance Book Club http://briercreekromance.webs.com. We meet on the second Wednesday of the month at the Brier Creek Barnes & Noble in Raleigh. Made up of HCRW writers as well as local readers, we have a blast! I have read genres I might never have tried because of the monthly ‘picks’.
N.L. BIO: Nancy lives the dream. After growing up in Huntington, New York, and raising two handsome sons in New Hampshire, Nancy and her husband moved to North Carolina where she writes full-time. She is a member of Romance Writers of America, Heart of Carolina Romance Writers, Celtic Heart Romance Writers, Fantasy-Futuristic & Paranormal Romance Writers, and Sisters in Crime. He stopped opposite the low bench, not intruding on her space. His hands lay motionless at his sides. One fist gripped the borrowed tennis racket against shorts that suddenly grew tight. He slid his other hand into his front pocket to camouflage a growing bulge before taking a slow, steady breath. She might not approve of a rampant erection making its presence known so early in their relationship.
“Hi, yourself.”
“Could I challenge you to a set?” Taylor kept his voice calm while his chest pounded from a sudden desire to run the other way. What the heck was going on? Where had his macho Hollywood persona, built to perfection during cattle calls and late night parties, gone?
With another deep breath, he watched her thinking. He could almost detect her mind as it quickly evaluated the man standing in front of her.
“I see you’re considering my request before answering.” He hoped he wasn’t out of his league, here. Yes, he might be twice her age, but he kept his body trim and healthy with daily workouts. He jogged wherever he happened to be, no matter where he traveled. He’d cut out smoking long before it was in vogue to do so and had slowly cut out the drinking. His friends might not agree with that statement.
Yeah, I still have a way to go with that problem.
He hadn’t joined Alcoholics Anonymous. He didn’t follow their teachings. He’d take a drink now and then, but he no longer drank to excess.
He towered over her. Her eyes flashed with desire as she checked him out. Is she staring at my hair?
During his show’s run, the studio added white-blonde highlights. He’d detested the look, but the fans loved it. Gray hairs had so far refused to make an appearance.
Her gaze settled uneasily on his face. Supermarket tabloids touted his eyes as his best feature. They described them as “The deep blue of the night sky just before sunset.”
Get real!
He fought the urge to laugh aloud. Contacts kept his vision going strong. The blue-tinted lenses made the color even more intense, but he didn’t wear tinted ones due to vanity. In all honesty, they were easier to find when he dropped one.
He took pride in how his skin pulled tight across his jaw and he still had all his hair. His slightly crooked grin was legendary due to the show. His smile, perfected on his television show, had turned women’s heads for years. He hoped it worked on this cute blonde.
“I was going to have lunch with my parents, but…”
Why did she hesitate? Listening intently, he waited to see how she’d finish her sentence. Surely playing with him would make better use of her time than a family get-together. Maybe the little beauty is hungry.
Hopefully she is hungry for more than just food.
He didn’t want her to starve, but he could certainly persuade her to get to know him better. After that, who knows where they may end up?
“Could you delay fifteen minutes or so? Won’t they wait? It’s such a lovely afternoon. My host is attending to business. I came here to play tennis, but if my partner-in-crime doesn’t show up soon, I’ll have to leave without my exercise. Please?”
Crap! Now he sounded desperate. She gazed over his shoulder at someone before returning her attention to him. Then she smiled. His heart thumped inside his chest.
“Okay. I can give you one set. Then I have to eat before I leave for an afternoon appointment.”
Her bright smile flashed a heated spark straight to his groin. She set her water bottle back down on the bench and grabbed two tennis balls. She tossed them his way and Taylor caught both then stuffed the balls in the back pockets of his tennis shorts. She grabbed two more.
“As a guest of the country club, why don’t you serve?”
“How do you know I’m not a member?” he asked. “Am I wearing some kind of sign across my chest?”
“You mentioned your host is off somewhere.”
Dropping her gaze to his waist, she walked to her side of the net. Was she admiring how he filled out his shorts? Their cut left little to the imagination. Only fair since he had quite the imagination concerning her. As he made his way to the service line, he smiled at her quick deduction that he didn’t belong here. Nodding to her, he bounced the ball twice, set his feet by the right-hand serve box, and swung the racket. Relief flooded his body when the ball made it over the net and landed on his opponent’s court. It wouldn’t do to embarrass himself in front of her so early in their relationship. They hadn’t even exchanged names, yet.
In a flash, she flew across the court and the return volley sailed past his racket. He watched as the bouncing bit of yellow hit the court inches inside the fault line.
She got me.

K.T. ISIS ROGERS

Isis Rogers, the heroine in the College Love 101 Series, dropped by the Press Box to visit with Author K.T. Bishop before school started in 1991.
K.T.: Thank for you dropping by.
Isis (frowning): It's about time you invite a girl in here. Everything's been about Arnaz.
K.T.: Now we're on the subject, tell me about your relationship with him.
Isis: Where do I begin?
K.T. (snorts): At the beginning.
Isis: Even though we're four hours apart, we manage to make it work. We take advantage of the small amount of time we have together, like the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays and summer vacation. I think that makes us click. We're there for each other, despite trying to finish out school.
K.T.: Was it love at first sight?
Isis (sticks out her right hand): Hell no! When I first met Arnaz, I thought he was overbearing and obnoxious. I wanted nothing to do with him. He was like that fly buzzing around the picnic table at a Fourth of July Barbeque.
K.T.: What changed that?
Isis: He didn't give up and wore me down. Once I looked into his deep brown eyes, I was hypnotized. Another look at that slender body because we're about the same height didn't hurt matters either. A lot of guys get intimidated by tall women, but my Arnaz did not. He still pursued me. That's why I am in love with him. He allowed me to overcome my insecurity over being tall.
K.T.: Enough about the love affair, tell us about you.
Isis (Claps her hands): Thought you'd never ask. I am a Cajun princess who lives in New Orleans and attends homestanding Xavier University. I major in pre-medicine and planning to become a pediatrician. My family's well known in New Orleans. My dad played for the New Orleans Saints. I have a brother who plays at LSU and will be in the NFL someday.
K.T.: You and Arnaz come from different ethnic backgrounds.
Isis (giggles): You know what they say, opposites attract. Seriously, I don't flaunt my heritage in his face. I am not one of those people looking to hook up with someone because they have lineage. I'll quote one of my favorite songs from Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, Someone to love me for me: “All I want is for someone to love me for who I am, not for materialistic things.” Arnaz loves me, not the money. For that, I am grateful.
K.T.: Where do you see yourself ten years from now?
Isis: Hopefully, married to Arnaz and starting my practice.
K.T.: Hope it works for you both.
Isis: I think it will. He'll graduate one year ahead of me and that's an advantage. We can be together when I start med school. I wouldn't mind juggling the role of a wife and med student, if we both compromise. We have to cross that bridge when the time comes.
K.T.: Thanks for your time.
Isis: Thank you for having me.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://kenibird.blogspot.com/2010/06/meet-isis-rogers.html' title='MEET.... Arnaz Booker

Arnaz Booker, the main character in the College Love 101 series, dropped by the Press Box to discuss life and love with Author K.T. Bishop in 1991.
K.T.: Thanks for taking the time out of your busy schedule.
Arnaz: Not a problem. Always glad to talk with my role model.
K.T.: Tell us a little about yourself.
Arnaz: I am a senior at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, majoring in Journalism. By the way, Stillman's a real college, its not Hillman from the Cosby Show and A Different World. I work part-time at the Tuscaloosa News and live at home with my mother.
K.T.: Seems that you're living the life of a typical college student.
Arnaz: My life is far from perfect.
K.T.: In what way?
Arnaz: I don't like discussing my family business with non-relatives, but I just found out my father's alive.
K.T.: I bet that sucks.
Arnaz: (rolls his eyes). No kidding. It's just something I have to deal with, I guess. Life's never easy, you know. On top of trying to graduate with honors, find a job and a long-distance relationship.
K.T.: Okay, I see how this is making you uncomfortable. Let's change the subject: tell me about your girlfriend.
Arnaz (face lights up): Isis Rogers, the most beautiful woman I ever seen. When I first laid eyes on her at that pre-med program at Fisk University two years ago in Nashville, I burned my little black book. There was no other woman that came close in comparison. I pursued Isis until she became mine. She's brillant and a future doctor who attends Xavier University in New Orleans.
K.T: A long-distance relationship that works. Glad it worked for someone.
Arnaz: It's not easy. We only see other for holidays and parts of the summer because of our busy schedules. If I had to go back in time, I'd do the same thing. Isis is worthy of pursuing. Besides, it wouldn't hurt to have a doctor around to take care of you.
K.T.: If you could spend a day with someone living or dead, who would it be?
Arnaz: Martin Luther King because the way he fought for blacks to be equal with whites. I've heard so much about him from my mother, who saw him in Birmingham, and met members of the King family.
K.T.: What's your ultimate goal?
Arnaz: Follow the path you set. Land a reporting job at a newspaper, and write a book someday. Hopefully, I'll marry Isis someday. She becomes a doctor and we live happily ever after.
K.T:Hope it works for you. Enjoyed the interview.
Arnaz (gives a half shoulder hug): I'm optimistic we can work something out. Great chatting with you as well.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://kenibird.blogspot.com/2010/05/meet-arnaz-booker.html' title='MEET.... One of her books, Being Familiar With a Witch. just made EPIC Awards 2010 finalist. She also writes as Pamela K. Kinney.
K.T. -Thanks for dropping by; please tell us about your latest book.
S.P.-- That would be two. Being Familiar With a Witch, which is an erotic urban fantasy published by Phaze Books that is a finalist for the erotic paranormal romance category for EPIC Awards 2010 (winners will be announced at the EPIC Conference in March) and Unwitting Sacrifice, an erotic Lovecraftian horror novella, published by Under the Moon.
K.T. -What can we expect from you in the future?
S.P.-- I will have an erotic paranormal romance short, Ain’t Nothin’ Like Succubus Lovin’ coming out this Spring from Phaze Books.
K.T. -How do we find out about you and your books?
S.P.-- Right now my website I use as Sapphire Phelan and my other writing name, Pamela K. Kinney at http://FantasticDreams.50megs.com I am thinking getting a website just for me as sapphire Phelan, but I will post on the Fantastic Dreams one the link if and when that happens.
K.T. -How would you describe the genre in which you do most of your writing?
S.P. --Paranormal, fantasy, urban fantasy, and science fiction romance, plus erotic horror (besides Unwitting Sacrifice, I had a horror erotica short story, “Jack” published in a horror magazine about three years ago).
K.T. -- What motivated you to start writing?
S.P. -- I read books since I was really young and at age 8, I wanted to be a writer. I got published in 1972 at age 17 with poetry, in a poetry magazine.
K.T. -What kind of research do you do? Depending if I need to understand lions for S.P.-- Beast Magic, or learn demon names for Being Familiar With a Witch, I look up things. Same for myths and legends that I can use for a story.
K.T. -Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow?
S.P.--Generally I like to write during the week, during the daytime the best, but I have done writing on weekends and at nights, if need be.
K.T. -Where do your ideas come from?
S.P.-- From my own imagination. I just think of what hadn’t been done before for a storyline or what if? then the story forms there.
K.T. -Who, if anyone, has influenced your writing?
S.P.-- Ray Bradbury, Shirley Jackson, Barbara Cartland, Victoria Holt, Madeleine L’Engle, Anne McCaffrey, Edgar Allan Poe, H. P. Lovecraft, plus many more.
K.T. -What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?
S.P.-Hearing from readers that have to tell you they enjoyed your books. After all, in the long run, it is they that you write for, besides yourself.
K.T. -Please tell us about yourself (family, hobbies, education, etc.)
S.P.-- I like to make and wear costumes (historical, TV/movie related and original) to conventions, crafts, read, write, act (done film and stage as Pamela K. Kinney), bake, Mexican and Oriental--esp. Sushi, watch movies or DVDs with my husband, horseback ride (though hadn’t done in quite a while), go to scifi conventions, b een to college twice in my life and my two cats, Bast and Ripley.
K.T. -Are there any words of encouragement for unpublished writers?
S.P.-- Just keep writing and submitting. Join a writer’s group or find a great critique partner, and learn all about the craft of writing, plus the business side too.
K.T. -- Where else may readers find you? Other sites, since you gave out your website earlier?
S.P.--http://www.myspace.com/SapphirePhelan
http://SapphirePhelansPassionCorner.blogspot.com
groups.yahoo.com/group/SapphirePhelansParanormalNewsletter
http://twitter.com/SapphirePhelan
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sapphire-Phelan/324399690647
K.T. -- Now for something fun:
Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate!
Erotic or inspirational? I like both. I just like to read.
Favorite color? Purple.
Favorite paranormal being? Werewolf, plus all shapeshifters.
Favorite mythological being? Dragons.
Do you like science fiction, fantasy or horror? Enjoy all three genres.
All time favorite book? The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson and Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury.
Favorite TV show? Supernatural.
Favorite Movie? Avatar, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, The Haunting (1963), and LOTR: Return of the King.
What makes you laugh out loud? A good comedy.
If you could go anywhere in the universe where would that be? Another planet. I think that would so cool.
A secret fetish? If I told you, it wouldn’t be a secret then, would it?

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://kenibird.blogspot.com/2010/02/say-hello-to-sapphire-phelan.html' title='Say hello to ..... Lisa Lipkind Leibow
Red Rose Publishing Author Lisa Lipkind Leibow took time from Memorial Day to drop by and discuss her latest book, Double Out and Back. The book will soon be released by Red Rose Publishing.
K.T.: What is your reason for writing books?
LLL: I write fiction. Most of my projects are book-length. I write novels because I tend to think on a grand scale and I love the challenge of weaving together a lengthy plot with large casts of characters. However, I write short stories, too. My short story, Lessons From a Squirrel can be found in the Winter 2008 issue of the Pisgah Review.
KT: What is your favorite genre to write about?
LLL: I don’t consider myself a genre writer. So, this is a difficult question for me to answer. Double Out and Back is mainstream fiction. It has some elements of historical fiction, multicultural fiction, chick lit, and dark romance. I guess if I had to classify it, I’d call it smart Women’s fiction.
KT: Tell us about your writing process?
LLL: I spend a lot of time getting to know my characters before I set out to animate them in a written scene. I “interview” them and craft detailed back stories for them. Much of this never makes it into the story. But knowing a character’s motivations and how they would react in a given situation based on their past experiences helps me to make a character come alive on the page when I drop them into the plot. For me, writing fiction is a lot like method acting. A director might give an actor a five minute explanation of what his motivations should be to utter one line of dialogue. And these motivations permeate the performance, coming through with facial expression, posture, gesticulations, and inflection of the actor’s voice. Someone watching the performance can infer a lot about an actor’s motivations and emotions without a lengthy narrative explaining where he’s coming from. When I write prose, I work hard to balance dialogue and narrative to give the reader a vivid, sensory experience with realistic, fully-drawn characters.
KT: Who are some of your influences as an author?
LLL: I’m heavily influenced by what I love to read. I have so many literary heroes, I could write volumes on the subject. I’ll share a few with you here. I’m in awe of Alice Munro’s ability to sum up an entire lifetime in a sentence. I love the quirky characters of John Irving , the vivid, detailed descriptions of Ayn Rand, and the strong, pithy dialogue of Ernest Hemingway. I admire the character driven fiction of Julia Glass and the expertly plotted tales of Steven King. I admire the boldness of Barbara Kingsolver to tackle multiple, first-person points-of-view in one novel, and Amy Tan’s ability to carry me to a time and place I’ve never been and make it seem real to me.
KT: Do you see yourself writing books forever?
LLL: I’m not one to think in absolutes. I see myself writing until my muse stops courting me and until writing ceases to satisfy my need for a creative outlet. Since I can’t imagine when that day might arrive, I guess that’s as close to hoping to write “forever” as I’ll admit.
KT: What makes this book so intriguing?
LLL: What’s striking about Double Out and Back is that it explores from a literary perspective, some of the social issues faced by a generation that has more options than ever when it comes to starting a family. What fascinates me is that when it comes right down to it, even with the technological advancements in reproduction and healthcare, families still must rely on one another to thrive.
KT: Anything else you're working on?
LLL: I routinely share that I am perpetually almost finished with my second novel. I also have a first draft of a young adult fantasy novel awaiting my attention, as well as several other projects in the research phase.
KT: Give us an excerpt—
“I’m ready!” Summer sprinted from the bathroom, where she had just rinsed her mouth with her favorite cinnamon-flavored mouthwash and inserted her diaphragm. It was probably overkill, since she also wore a birth control patch, but she refused to take any chances.
Summer sped through the condo, running through rooms all lined up in a row, from the tiny antiquated bathroom through the eat-in kitchen with her grandmother’s old Formica table and vinyl chairs, then past Jeremy’s hideous bachelor sofa that dominated the living room. Some people called the condo a railroad flat while others called it shotgun-style. She liked the former description better; it sounded less violent. Although, she supposed, she would have a greater chance of dodging a bullet racing through her home than she would of escaping a train barreling through it.
Summer dashed past the entrance of the small study alcove off the living room and into the bedroom where Jeremy waited. She pounced on the finest mattress and linens – her and Jeremy’s sole splurge.
Eagerly, she wrapped her arms and legs around Jeremy. She expected him to return her playfulness, but tonight he pulled away from their tight embrace and held her at arm’s length, his hands on her shoulders. His hair, so black it looked blue, always captivated Summer. His eyes, equally alluring in their darkness, were solemn.
“We have to talk,” he said.
“Now? What is it?” she asked.
Summer untangled herself from him and pulled up the patchwork quilt. Jeremy swallowed hard, but still he said nothing.
Summer said, “Tell me. It can’t be that bad.” She combed his dark bangs with her fingers.
He cleared his throat.
“Jeremy, tell me. You’re making me nervous,” she said.
“Okay,” he said, “here goes.” He cleared his throat again, and then said, “Summer, I've never told you that,” his speech accelerated, “I’m adopted.”
“What?” she asked.
“I’m adopted,” he repeated. “That’s why I want us to have a baby so badly.”
She released a chuckle, feeling a great sense of relief. “That’s your big secret? Oh, Jeremy, you had me scared out of my mind.” She moved closer to him. “I was thinking, some horrible disease, or you used to be a woman,” she said and then laughed, adding, “I guess I wonder, though, why you didn’t tell me before.”
Jeremy’s face looked pale and tense. His normally sonorous voice became tinny. “I remember when I was five years old. Two neighbors from down the street, both mothers of big families. Between them they had nine children. They gossiped on the playground at my school while I was bouncing up and down on a seesaw with my friend. Maybe they didn’t know I was there, but I heard them clear as anything. They were talking about a local couple planning to adopt a baby and one said, ‘I would rather be childless than to adopt someone else’s problem.’ Problem! Can you believe it? I was only five, but I knew I was adopted. From that day on, I vowed never to tell anyone. It’s none of their business.”
Summer pressed her hand against Jeremy’s shoulder, guiding him to rest on the bed again. He didn’t budge. She kissed him and asked, “Adopted?”
“Yes,” he confirmed.
“So you’re telling me now? As foreplay?” she asked, laughing aloud.
Then he relaxed into a smile and said, “I know it may not seem like such a big deal, but it is to me. I really want to have a baby so I can know someone who is part of me. I want my children to feel certain they're wanted. Plus, I've never had the experience of knowing someone biologically related to me. You need to be sure, too.” He brushed her cheek with the back of his hand. “I have no idea what’s in my genes. Hell, someday our kids could look like…like the jolly green giant – nothing like either one of us. You would wonder, right?” Jeremy retreated.
“That doesn’t matter to me.” Summer scooted closer to him. She contemplated how seriously Jeremy took this. How could he worry about this when having a child was years away? Summer felt positive she would be concerned about giving birth to a healthy baby when the time came, and not how much the baby looked like her or Jeremy.
Jeremy’s confession brought them closer together. He shared with her what he believed to be his deepest, most intimate secret. Jeremy smiled, revealing clean, white teeth. The top two front teeth overlapped just enough to make him look real, not like an airbrushed GQ type. Summer’s freckled nose rested against Jeremy’s nose. When she looked into his eyes from that vantage point, she spied his heavy, neat eyebrows. His chin felt smooth against her chin.
Jeremy smiled. “The thought of you having my baby just thrills me. We could have a son or daughter with your gorgeous eyes, silky hair, and my golf swing; or with your long legs, my black hair and flair for logic. It's phenomenal no matter how I imagine it. Plus, whoever our baby is, that little boy or girl will be the first person biologically related to me I’ll ever meet. It’ll be great.” He looked unsure for a moment. “Don’t you think?”
Summer realized that being privy to Jeremy’s secret – something that shouldn’t even have been a secret – added pressure to give her husband a baby, and soon. She stared at the window, unable to meet his gaze as she spoke. She hoped they could finally stop talking and get back to sex.
“I look forward to being the one to give you that dream,” she said.
Although she didn’t verbalize it, what she really meant was that she looked forward to it someday. This was not the first time he had pressured her to have a baby. So far she had been successful in postponing the baby question until after she graduated from law school, after she passed the Bar, and now she made the excuse of waiting to achieve partnership at Intamin, Whalom and Cobb.
Deviously, she distracted her husband from reproduction with seduction. She pressed herself against him and kissed him deeply. Over Jeremy’s shoulder, she peeked at her left ring finger, which showed off a spectacular oval diamond set in a platinum ring. It symbolized their love.
She took pride in being married to Jeremy, a handsome, intelligent man with a fantastic future at one of the largest CPA firms in the world. For her, finding a good husband had been as important a goal as making partner. With diamond and diaphragm firmly in place, even with their lips locked together, the corners of her mouth floated into a smile.
To learn more about me and my upcoming novel, visit me on my website, http://www.lisalipkindleibow.com/ and at Red Rose Publishing, http://redrosepublishing.com/bookstore/product_info.php?cPath=62_92&products_id=402

K.T. Picking Cotton made its way onto the Red Rose's best seller list, entering the sixth position. The Interracial Sports Romance, starring M.L. Cotton and Jennifer Monet', peaked as high as fourth. The rest of the week, it hovered around the ninth position. To debut in the Top 10, cracking the Top four, is a big thrill.
Here's a sampling of compliments from my fellow authors:
Betty Ann Harris: "I think it's just fabulous! I really do believe the sports combined with the multi-cultural genre is going to make this book really sell. I wish you the very best of luck. I recommended to my son that he should purchase it and read it. He LOVEs sports, and of course he likes the girls too!''
Sherin Nicole: ''That's gotta be a great feeling! Cheers to staying power.''
Nancy O'Berry: "Picking Cotton is doing a fantastic job! Congratulations on your success!''
Gracen Miller: "Congrats on hitting the best seller list!!! That's awesome!!! Sounds like you did the right kind of promotion.''
Kathleen Rowland: "I love the spirit of your story, and I'm impressed that your cover artist captured it. I'm real encouraged for success after its April 16 at Red Rose Publishing:
Here's a sampling from authors and editors, two of whom I value their opinion very highly:
1. Rochelle Weber, an author and who edited Picking Cotton: "I greatly enjoyed the trailer.....Thumbs up!''
2. Author/Reviewer Desiree DeCleves: "Nice Trailer.''
3. Author Barbara Harris of Red Rose Publishing: "I really enjoyed the video trailer. It made me interested in reading the book. I think my Darkhorse Conspiracy is coming out the same day as your Picking Cotton. It's pretty exciting.''
4. My unbiased cousin Shirley Rice, who works in accounting for a Alabama newspaper: "That was great, I can't wait to read the book!''
5. Author YL Stokes: ''I love the trailer for Picking Cotton, Awesome job.''
6. Author Megan Rose: "It's very classy. I like it very much.''
7. Author Kathleen Rowland: "Congrats, you are making a nice splash! I love the website!''
8. Rookie Author Kate Appleton: "I just checked out your blog and watched the trailer - great stuff! I can't wait to read the book! Good luck!!!''
9. Author Dee Shore: "That was really well done. Love it.''
10. Nancy Famolari
I am pleased to introduce talented Author Nancy Famolari, who's promoting her latest creation, Summer's Story, coming soon to Red Rose Publishing.
Here's what Nancy had to say during her visit to the Press Box:
Football Romance: Can you tell us a little about yourself?
NF: I live in the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania with my husband, five horses, two dogs and five white cats. My favorite hobby is trail riding. My horse, Ambrosa de la Pluma is a registered Paso Fino. The breed came to the new world from Spain. Paso Finos have a unique four beat gait that is very smooth. They can go for hours on the trail. They are smart and friendly and make wonderful companions. My husband and I try to ride at least four times a week. We feel so luck to live in an area with lots of space for riding.
Football Romance: What inspired you to write this story?
NF: Summer's Story takes place in the fast paced world of harness racing. For fourteen years, my husband and I had a small Standardbred breeding farm in New Jersey. We raised and raced these marvelous horses. Harness racing is very exciting. There are many heart warming stories about an owner or trainer believing in their horse and against the odds getting the horse to win a big race. This is what happens in Summer's Story. There are also people who take advantage of both horses and people for personal gain, not caring the least about how the horse is affected. I believed these elements would make a good novel. I hope people agree.
Football Romance.: Do you have a favorite character?
NF: Summer Langston is my favorite character. She's a very determined lady who cares about her horse, Meadow, and overcomes severe personal and professional obstacles to get her horse to the winner's circle. In the process, she learns something about herself and how to give and receive love. I like the fact that she's gutsy and doesn't give up easily.
Football Romance: Tell us a little about your writing schedule.
NF: I try to write everyday for two hours. Obviously this isn't easy with farm chores and other activities. During Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month) I can almost always keep to the schedule because the incentive is to have a novel at the end of the month. I find the first draft fun and relatively easy to do. Editing is the part that gives me trouble. Summer's Story which will soon be available from Red Rose Publishing, I was extremely lucky in my editor. She made useful comments pointing out where I wasn't make my characters come across and, of course, how to improve my writing skills.
Football Romance: What are your future writing plans?
NF: I have a second book under contract to Red Rose Publishing. This novel is a murder mystery, Murder in Montbleu. The setting is a small town in Pennsylvania similar to the one I live in. I've become very friendly with the characters in this novel and have two other novels that use the same setting, Lake House and Buttermilk Falls Murder. I'm still in the process of editing them, but hope to find a home for them.
Let's thank for Nancy Famolari for visiting Sports Romance.
The book can be purchased at http://www.redrosepublishing.com/.
For a closer look at Summer's Story, click to the following link: http://redrosepublishing.com/bookstore/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=132&products_id=340

K.T. The Book can be purchased at www.redrosepublishing.com
For a more detailed look at this talented, upcoming author, check out her two websites: www.freewebs.com/deloreswalker and www.myspace.com/deloreswalker
Football Romance: What's your favorite genre to read?
DW: I would have to say contemporary romance, of course. But, I prefer romance with a twist, or humor.
Football Romance: Who or what influences you when you write?
DW: I must say I have been influenced by a great many writers of different genres. From Paul Curtis to Nora Roberts to Lawrence Sanders.
Football Romance: What do you do on a typical writingday?
DW: My typical writing day starts at around 9:00 pm. I try to get in an hour to two hours.
Football Romance: When you have writer's block how do you break free?
DW: Typically I would put down what ever I am writing and work on another project, Although that is not working at the moment. I am still trying to introduce two of my characters in one short.
Football Romance: Can you please give us a sneak peek at any of your upcoming books?
DW: Sure, the second book in my trilogy, “The Williams Men: Jeremie’s Story” will be out in 2009. I have “For Love or Loyalty” coming out in our calendar series. My man is August 2009. He can not decide whether he wants loyalty or love in his life. I also have a shape shifter story “Dr. Hugh Little and Detective Sidney Holmes” in the works. ..reference the last question… I also will have a free read posted on my freewebs site on Sept. 18.
Football Romance: Please tell us what you have planned next?
DW: I hope to combine two of my three books for print. In 5 years, where do you see yourself? – I hope to still be writing. Look at the family that God has blessed me with.

K.T. She put him into a Vampire-like trance with the dark blue jean shorts. Arnaz got so tangled up in the female med student that he couldn’t write his name on the tag. Louis quickly took over, inserting his name on the tag. “I see someone has been hit by the love bug,’’ he said.
“That’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen,’’ Arnaz said. “I’m in love.’’
Arnaz walked to the other side of the room to meet this gorgeous Amazon. “If I’m not back in 20 minutes, don’t come looking for me,’’ he said.
She sat in the middle rows, where Arnaz approached her. “Excuse me; I didn’t quite get your name,’’ he said.
The attractive woman responded with a sharp tongue: “You must be the brain surgeon in the group. You don’t have my name because I haven’t told you.’’
He got right to the point: “What’s your problem?’’
She rose from the seat and towered over him: “Do it look like I have a damn problem?’’
She stood 6-foot, two inches taller than him. A stunned Arnaz had no idea she was that tall. He was caught up in her pretty face, ignoring everything else. She questioned his immediate silence: “What’s wrong, cat got your tongue?’’
Under normal conditions, Arnaz would have walked away and tried to pick up other girls.
Somehow, this girl had gotten to him. He couldn’t split and go one-and-out like a team in the NCAA Basketball Tournament. “Are you feeling insecure about being tall?’’ he asked.
“Oh great, I get to meet Dr. Spock on this trip,’’ she said sarcastically. “I didn’t know this was a psychiatrist’s convention; I’m in the wrong place.’’
She couldn’t shake him. He stood right there, battling her wit for wit. “I’m not leaving until I get your name,’’ he said.
The head of the HCBU’s pre-med institute interrupted them, ordering everyone to line up alphabetically. A smitten Arnaz raced to the front, but left a warning: “I’ll be back, count on it.’’

K.T.
